Iceland
The Northlands
I had the privilege of living in Iceland during my mid 20’s where I was able to develop an intimate connection with the land while forging deep friendships with some of the local guides I lived and worked with during my time as a glacier guide. Through our time spent exploring vast glaciers, ice caps, and volcanic beaches we realized the vast majority of tourism in Iceland focuses on the same repetitive tourist path, resulting in environmental overuse at some of the islands most scenic and beloved natural attractions. Along with the environmental damage Iceland’s mass tourism circuit imposes on the nation’s sub arctic ecosystems, it also creates a stark disconnect between travelers and Icelandic cultural heritage. Many travelers I have spoken to stated their time in Iceland was incredible however they wished they could’ve gotten away from the crowds and further immersed themselves in local culture and landscapes, yet they didn’t know where to start or how to cultivate those connections. In my opinion, the most insightful and educational travel experiences always happen when you’re under the guidance of locals who have a close relationship to the land, and that’s one thing we’ve learned time and time again throughout the Baja California peninsula. So here we are, bringing our ethos of honoring the natural history and cultural heritage of a desert peninsula to the far northern reaches of the land of fire and ice.
Collaborating with local guides we’re stoked to announce that we’ll be able to facilitate small groups of up to 6 people while hosting you at a remote guesthouse located on a three thousand acre working farm in the geologic wonderland of southeast Iceland. From this location we’re strategically placed to explore Vatnajokull National Park, miles of volcanic coastline, and local hidden gems which we’ll leave unnamed at the request of our local partners. I run this company so I’m at the liberty to speak freely and openly, and I have to say these trips are a no bullshit experience. I’m not going to market them to try and offer you an “authentic” experience. Simply put our aim is for you to be able to learn about Iceland’s dynamic natural processes and rich cultural heritage while at the same time adventuring till the sun hits the horizon with some truly amazing humans.
Our journey begins at the Keflavik airport where we have a 4x4 van to transport guests to our countryside basecamp. From here we will spend 9 days exploring river valleys, climbing glaciers, hiking volcanic mountains, driving 4x4 trails, soaking in geothermal springs, and adventuring to our hearts desire as we discover all the region has to offer. This trip is all inclusive, which means we handle everything from guiding and equipment, transportation, to all meals & drinks (including alcohol), and snacks.
