Tres Virgenes Volcanic Complex

The fiery heart of Baja California

Located 1.5 hours to the east of San Ignacio, the Tres Virgenes Volcanic Complex dominates the landscape. Sprawling lava flows tumble from the principal peak La Virgen, standing proudly at 6,345 ft. This complex is a dynamic region as it’s raw vertical heights are equally matched by deep canyons where you’re able to travel through geologic time and discover ancient seashell fossil beds juxtaposed against a cathedral of cactus and stone.

Basecamp

Partnering with Ejido Bonfil and local guides, we utilize the Tres Virgenes Ecolodge as our all inclusive remote basecamp to stage guided activities. From a two day ascent of the only stratovolcano on the Baja California peninsula, to exploring sprawling thornscrub plains on horseback, to interpretive hikes exploring geothermal vents, cave paintings, and fossil beds. Regarding land based activities, there’s truly something here for everyone. This desert outpost is equipped with 6 cabins, a full kitchen/restaurant, and hot showers, allowing guests a comfortable refuge during their desert explorations.
